Remarks & Notes |
This loaded BNSF coal train is sitting crewless on the south leg of the Bell Ayr wye in Wyoming's Powder River Basin. Often coal trains, such as this one, are loaded by a separate loading crew and then after loading are held at the mine until an available road crew arrives to take the train onward. That is the multi track Orin Sub in the foreground. Eastward loaded trains pause here to add the Belle Ayr Helpers on the rear for a boost up Whitetail Hill to Donkey Creek Jct. I have read that this short stretch of the Orin Sub. is known as “absolute alley” due to the many signals for the spurs to 4 large coal mines in a span of 6 miles. |
