The 0-4-0+0-4-0T Mallet steam locomotive #440.008 is seen with a mixed freight and passenger train at the "Devil's Gate" near Sheregeni in Eritrea. This scenic narrow gauge railroad between Massawa and Asmara was built between 1887 and 1911, and rebuilt in the 90s. The gauge is the standard Italian narrow gauge: 950 mm (3 ft 1 3⁄8 in). After some successful charters for tourists between 2003 and 2013, the future of this unique railroad is unfortunately unsettled. It belongs to the most spectacular mountain railways in the world!
