Here is a something you don't see every day. It is obvious to most railfans in northern New Jersey that a diesel powered set isn't your typical Gladstone Line equipment. However, thanks to the Far Hills Steeplechase, NJ Transit ran many extra trains down the Gladstone Line, allowing any interested railfan to catch a variety of equipment in service on a line that is typically handled by Arrow III MUs. One of those extra trains is seen here passing through New Providence, NJ with a PL42AC diesel locomotive for power. The train is packed with passengers heading to the Far Hills steeplechase.
