Remarks & Notes |
CNW 5094 leads two more GP50s elephant style around a curve near Carroll, IA with a Falcon service intermodal train headed from Chicago to a connection with the Union Pacific at Fremont, NE. The "left-hand" railroad is using the right hand track here because it has been upgraded to handle faster speeds. The Falcons successfully competed with BN and Santa Fe for the hot intermodal trade. Full upgrading of this important line would not be completed until UP ownership provided more funds than C&NW could afford. That would be some 14 years after this photo was taken. |
