Remarks & Notes
GN SD9 no. 581 idles at the wash rack in Superior, WI adjacent to a couple of F units. The three units display both of GN's orange and green schemes as well as Big Sky Blue. This is becoming a little unusual as this is post-BN merger and NP and CB&Q units were intermingling freely with GN power by now. A close look would show the orange F unit is re-numbered to BN, but the SD9 looks like it has since the mid-sixties.

The EMD SD (special duty) series are a strong and reliable kind of locomotive which still serve America's rails today. They have proved themselves reliable by clocking in several million miles of freight service over several decades.
