Remarks & Notes
Union Pacific’s unique rail detector car DC-3 inspects UP’s Kearney Subdivision main line in July 1981. This car was originally built in 1928 as a Brill Model 350 motor car for Detroit & Mackinac and sold to Teledetector Inc. in 1952, where it was converted to a detector car. The car was then sold to UP in April 1954 and eventually numbered DC-3. It was rebuilt twice, in 1961 and 1981—with the final version having added sloped front AND rear windows as seen here. The car was retired in December 1986 and sold for scrap.
