A San Joaquin arrives at Emeryville, led by Amtrak California's first F59. The connecting passengers for San Francisco will detrain for the waiting Thruway buses.

From one train each way in 1973 between Bakersfield and Oakland when it started up, this line as expanded to six trips daily; four to Oakland and two to Sacramento.

Some of the best passenger locomotives that EMD ever made (aside from the F40PH). With all Amtrak F59s gone from the Surfline, the only place that they can be seen is with Caltrans (Amtrak California).
