Never Again
The first double-headed Pennsylvania Railroad steam combination since the PRR dropped its fires in the 1950’s pull a train out of the Groffs siding on the Strasburg Rail Road in 1983. The pair would serve individually and as a pair until 1983, when evidence of thin firebox walls permanently consigned both locomotives to the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania in 1989. The only currently-active PRR steamer is 0-6-0 653 at Williams Grove, Pennsylvania. With only K4s 4-6-2 1361 having any prospects of ever returning to service, it is highly unlikely that we will ever see another pair of PRR steam locomotives working together.
