An eastbound Conrail hopper train approaches the newly renovated Main Street crossing in Royersford, Pennsylvania. The brick station was built by the Reading in 1931. After fifty years of service, it hosted its last passenger in 1981 when SEPTA discontinued its Philadelphia – Reading Service. The rising cloud in the background is not from local factories. It is steam from the cooling towers of PRCO Energy’s Limerick Nuclear Generating Station, some four miles away. Before rebuilding, that grade crossing kept several local automotive alignment shops in business.
