This vintage shot was taken at Eau Claire Tower, capturing a classic piece of railroad history from the 1950s and 60s. The tower operator hands up orders to the engineer of train 172, powered by an F7 ABA consist. The rear units still in the green/yellow/black scheme. Note the piping for the lever controls and the vintage Chevy. I was 13 and this was one of my first shots of CNW. Train 172 was one of the last trains through Eau Claire that still regularly used F units in the summer of 1964.
