Remarks & Notes
One of the Mid-America Car shop switcher, MALX 82 comes out to get the SD9-3 and take it back inside the plant during a switch move. Both of these units have fascinating histories.

MALX 82 was built in 8-1947 for the Southern Railway was SOU 2010. Renumberd SOU 1013 in 12-1972, it was sold to the Wabash Valley Railroad, which was owned by Morrison-Knudsen, and became WVRC 1802 in 1978. Later sold to Mid-america Car and leased to the Cadillac & Lake City as CLK 82 and used on their former Rock Island Line between Colorado Springs and Limon, CO. The unit was returned to MAC after their Colorado shutdown in 1989, and has faithfully served as one of the shop switchers ever since alongside MALX 92, which is an SW9.

One might also notice that the SW1 is equipped for MU operation, a trait not entirely common with many early switch engines.

The SD9-3 was built as CB&Q 374 in 10-1955, builder number 20584, frame number 5399-30 as a high nose SD9. After 1970 the engine became BN 6176, and BNSF 6176 sometime after 1995. The unit was rebuilt, which included a new cab and a chopped nose in 5-1999, one of 4 units done this way.

After new ES44AC's took the 6100 series away in 2007, the unit became BNSF 1712, and was subsequently renumbered BNSF 1552 after the SD40-2's went down to that number series.

In 2008 it was involved in a yard accident, and the cab and handrails received sideswipe damage. Repairs were made to this museum piece and the unit returned to work, serving in Amarillo, TX until being move here. 1552 has been at MAC since 2014, reportedly for engine work.
