Spring is late to arrive high on the mountain as brand new SD-60I 5630 from the Juniata Locomotive Shop in Altoona leads one of the daily procession of manifests up the mountain grade from Altoona to Gallitzin at the midway point of MG. 5630 was later to go to CSX and the trailing SD40-2 6495 went to NS as did the railroad around here. This 134 car westbound had two more SD40-2s shoving on the rear. One could hear westbounds laboring up the distant valley for 15-20 minutes before reaching this point. MG was closed later this year and, with windows filled in with cement, now remains a stark sentinel on a remote stretch of railroad. Fuji Velvia.
