TRC SD40T-2 2005, which started life as SP 8541 back in 1979, is on the point of a loaded potash train as it enters Searles, nearing the end of the 26 mile uphill trek from the mineral plant at Trona just as the shadows begin to overtake the Searles Valley. The engineer has all seven of Trona Railway's road units screaming in notch eight, putting out nearly 21,000 horsepower.
