PURCELL OK July 1977 -- ATSF 3546 eases to a stop beside ATSF 328. Both trains were crewed by a short pool that operated between Arkansas City to Purcell and between Purcell and Gainesville. There was also a long pool which operated between Arkansas City and Gainesville. Purcell was a location where cannon fire kicked off the Run of '89. Thousands ran or rode their way across the Canadian River to claim land. Purcell was a great place to catch Santa Fe trains.
