Nittany & Bald Eagle 1603 and North Shore 2012 work their charge off 'the wall' on to Washington Avenue in Tyrone, PA on the former PRR Bald Eagle Branch. Owned by the North Shore System, the NBER runs some rather colorful power compared to the nearby NS mainline's usual fare--many of North Shore's locomotives wears a heritage-inspired paint scheme, in this case the Erie Lackawanna on the trailing unit. The bridge over 10th Street (just out of the shot to the left) was recently raised about 2 feet to improve clearance for trucks, resulting in the concrete caps on the original stonework elevation.
1603 is a GP8 built as Reading #634, later Conrail # 5400.
2012 is a GP38 built for Penn Central.
Not
just heritage schemes, not just commemorative schemes - this album is devoted to some of the world's most interesting paint schemes, past or present.
