A respectable mile long train of single stacked containers is nearing the end of its journey from Whittier to Anchorage. It's seen here on the mainline passing an SD70MAC on the adjacent Coastal Siding in the process of unloading 86 cars of gravel at the QAP pit. The venerable GP38 wears the "Alaska Bold" scheme of the 1980s and it's rare to see one leading on the mainline these days. This new highway overpass of Dowling Road provides a great view that really highlights the contrast between urban and rural that is the great city of Anchorage. The double track main slices through the South Anchorage industrial district while the upscale homes of the hillside neighborhoods can be seen clinging to the lower reaches of the Chugach Mountains in the distance. Note the cyclist on Arctic Blvd beside the trains.
