Remarks & Notes
Around 11:15 p.m. on Sept. 6 a southbound freight train heading from Birmingham, AL to Waycross, GA encountered a person whom intentionally walked in front of it "a statement from the crew of the train". This action caused the crew to apply the emergency brakes, which caused part of the train to derail. A total of 5 cars out of 131 derailed. There were two loaded and three empty, one with wood and the other which is this tank car loaded with molten sulphur. Neither of the cars lost their loads. Work is being done to move the cars trackside for now, where they will be till there's an opportunity for them to be removed. Trains where backed up for hours before traffic got back moving later that afternoon... This was a very sad occurrence.
