On April 22, 2001, a late season snowstorm has dumped a lot of white stuff in the high country of Colorado. Just after the storm let up, Union Pacific MDVRO does a little stormin’ itself as it roars up the main line at Rollinsville. Five locomotives power the westbound freight, including Rio Grande SD40T-2 “Tunnel Motors” Nos. 5345 and 5371. Rolling by in the siding is a pair of BNSF SD40-2s that just finished helping a westbound up to the Moffat Tunnel. Needless to say, manned helpers and Rio Grande locomotives are a thing of the past on today’s Moffat line.
