With its northbound journey now complete, Amtrak 1761 turns as Amtrak 1790 as crew members prepare the train for its southbound journey. Running today with the AMTK 42, Amtrak's first "Salute Our Veteran's" painted unit, today's train also includes the private cars Pacific Trail and Overland Trail. Upon their arrival into Los Angeles later this evening, the 42 and two private cars will pull away from 1790 and roll all the way to the bumper where they'll be parked until a yard crew can take them back to the yard. Meanwhile, 1790 will make its regularly scheduled station stop in LA before continuing south for San Diego.
