Remarks & Notes
Best. Paint. Scheme. Ever.

Amtrak San Diegan #78 makes its stop in Santa Ana late in the day on an August 1971 afternoon. Amtrak was just over three months old at this time, and the four-daily* San Diegans still looked as they did when Santa Fe was operating them. F7A 300L was a common sight on these trains, connecting Los Angeles to San Diego, until Amtrak took delivery of enough new SDP40Fs to replace them. In November 1974, F7A 300L would emerge from Santa Fe's Cleburne Shops as CF7 2493.

* - There was also a three-days-per-week San Diegan that was numbered as an extension of the Coast Starlight.
