Motorists traveling on North College street are dealing with a partially activated crossing this evening in Auburn. This little screwup is not the fault of CSX's equipment mind you. The cause of this traffic hindrance is actually from a portable chain link fence seen laying atop the counterweight on the crossing across the street. It seems that the fence protecting the construction site in the background fell onto the counterweight of the crossing while a train was passing through. After the train cleared the roadway and the crossing gate started to rotate up, it's counterweight got caught in one of the diamond shaped openings of the fence. This in turn prevented the gate from going back into its vertical position which kept the crossing activated for quite a while, giving motorists a real doozy of a time trying to safely cross the tracks not knowing if a train was nearby. A few minutes after this photo was taken, a construction worker from the job site realized what was happening and removed the fence. The gate rotated up and the lights turned off, thus ending this entertaining sight on North College.
