| Westbound stacks race across the Sweetgrass Hills of northern Montana. The collection of mountains in the distance are known as East Butte and are one of several island ranges in this area. They formed millions of years ago as volcanic islands rising above a vast sea. Glaciers of the ice age eroded them into their current shape, with Mount Royal on the left standing at 6,908 feet. |
