Santa Fe SD45 5394 was the first locomotive painted in the "Kodachrome" scheme for the ill-fated Southern Pacific Santa Fe merger. When originally painted, this unit had white lettering and more "fingers" on the nose logo (not visible in this nose shot), but within months the lettering was changed to yellow and the striping changed from 4 to 3. In fact, just two days before this November 9, 1985, photo, I caught ATSF 5394 still with the early version of this scheme! (Note the conductor with the cowboy hat.)
Not
just heritage schemes, not just commemorative schemes - this album is devoted to some of the world's most interesting paint schemes, past or present.
