The Southern California chapter of the Railroad & Locomotive Historical Society hosted their 4th annual night photo shoot “An Evening with Railgiants” on August 13, 2016. The museum is located at the Pomona Fairgrounds in Pomona California. This year the featured locomotives were the Union Pacific 9000, a 4-12-2 ALCO and Union Pacific EMD SD-40. UP 9000 was built in 1926, one of 88 eventually constructed for the Union Pacific. This locomotive was not only unusual for its large wheel arrangement, but also for the fact that it had three cylinders instead of the standard two or four. A continuously growing album of photos that IMHO reveal the awesome and seldom-seen beauty of the railroad world from the dimming of day to dawn's early light! From dusk to dawn, trains roll on! (I'm still finding gems of sunset-to-sunrise surprises!)
