Test train 995 starts around the connection track at JK between the Silt Mill Lead and the Winston-Salem line with a pair of SD50's (6514, 6518), research car NS 32, and a load of black diamonds providing the needed tonnage. Soon the SD50's will be down on their knees dragging up Starkey Hill with NS 32 collecting data on their performance, or lack thereof. During June 2003 NS ran several test trains including this pair of SD50's, a pair of C39-8's, and a trio of former N&W 1600 series SD40-2's. I'm not sure what they were trying to establish so late in the game for these models, unless they wanted to see how they measured up against each other...
