| Back in 2007 I made a week trip shooting all these old relics on the northern coal route. Here the loaded train bound for Superior for unloading rumbles east with a Glendive pusher on the rear end. In a few miles the units will be under heavy load as they begin the climb between Mendora and Fryburg. AC and DP powered coal trains were still unusual back in 2007 on this route. Wasn't long til the evolution of technology pushed all this old school power off this route and off the roster.
Now days most of these units are now at NREX in Silvis, waiting for an unknown future. At least this lead motor is now is service on the NS as NS 2803. Hard to believe how much the rosters of class 1's have changed in 10 years! |
