This bridge over the New River was constructed in the early '70s to link the former N&W main with the former Virginian. From this point upriver to Kellysville, the old VGN was then abandoned, with its right of way used as two lanes of new US 460. This is an eastbound coal train bound for Roanoke. The VGN route across Christiansburg Mountain is much easier in terms of grade against eastbounds than the old N&W route. Still, this train will pick up a rear end pusher at Whitethorne, VA.
