Afternoon rush hour has begun on the CNW at Madison St. station in Chicago, and the "scoots" are on the move, arriving from nearby California Ave. yard and lining up to load afternoon commuters and send them west, northwest or north to their suburban homes. Left, F7A 418, rebuilt from a freight F for commuter service waits alongside E8A no. 515 which always was in passenger service on CNW. Soon both these units would be replaced by RTA F40PHs as private commuter haulage gave way to Metra in the 1980s.
