After a pair of 1983 weekend Alexandria – Charlottesville excursions with Norfolk & Western 4-8-4 611 and a pair of Alexandria – Front Royal trips with Savannah & Atlanta 4-6-2 750 the following weekend, the two steamers stayed in Alexandria until Sunday, July 17. Here they depart Alexandria together with a ferry move over the RF&P to the Richmond, site of the 1983 NRHS convention. It just didn’t seem right to have the diminutive Pacific shielding the streamlined shrouding of the 611.
