After spending a few weeks in North Carolina, Norfolk & Western J-Class 4-8-4 611 is headed home to Roanoke. Until she gets into the city of her birth, the big Northern (Am I allowed to use that designation for a locomotive from south of the Mason-Dixon Line?) will be on rails that she did not ply during her revenue career. Now a few miles into her home state of Virginia, the J will continue north on the route of the Southern Railway to Hurt, Virginia, where it will traverse one-time arch-rival Virginian’s rails to the capital of the Blue Ridge.
