L&N Extra 319 South--a Corbin to Lynch, KY turnaround job--stops at Loyall, KY in observance of the train order signal at the stop position. The engineer is inside signing for a Form 31 train order. The train will head up the Poor Fork Branch at Baxter, less than a mile ahead. The empties will be placed upgrade from the big tipple at the huge mine at Lynch, and then a corresponding number of loads will be doubled over below the tipple. Shortly after midnight, the crew will pass this way again en route to Corbin with a 10,000 train of met coal to be washed at US Steel's prep plant, and then reloaded and shipped north to Gary, Indiana. This operation was known as the "Steel Train."
