Remarks & Notes
CSXT 888 East drops down into the Carroll Creek sag passing the detector between Mt.Carroll and Lanark. This was the old Milwaukee Road Illinois Division that was double track as the bridge still shows over the creek. Behind the train on top of the hill was a location called Ashdale where the Ashdale Cutoff turned to the left to by-pass Savanna and connect at Ebner with the line that went south to East Moline. The Ashdale Cutoff was removed from service in the 1960's. I remember Firing for Jerry Knickel Sr. on the old R&SW trains from Milwaukee to Savanna and he would always point out the cutoff and tell you a tale regarding it prefacing by saying"I remember Lad the old Ashdale Cutoff."
