Remarks & Notes
At 520 feet long and 126 feet high, Hamilton Trestle (Bridge No. 56) is the first of four high trestles moving west between St. Paul and Coeburn, VA along the former Norfolk & Western Lower Clinch Valley District of the Pocahontas Division. When the line was under construction, the high trestles began as wood...an engineering materpiece in the isolated Holbrook Hollow. The newer steel Hamilton Trestle extends 11 feet into the west portal of Holbrook Tunnel, a slate and sandstone tunnel measuring 196 feet long. Hamilton/Holbrook is the only high trestle in this section of Norfolk Southern line that is not visible from Highway Alt 58.
