Former Chicago Great Western SD40, CNW 925 mates up with CNW 923 (X-CGW) and CNW 891 at Altoona, WI in December 1971. The trio are parked at the sanding tower and fueling facility for topping off before heading out on a freight. Altoona yard served switching needs for local industries as well as creating several locals and re-blocking through freights. Just east of Eau Claire, it was near the junction of the line to Duluth and the mainline to Minneapolis from Chicago. In 1971 there also was a time freight operated east to Green Bay via Merrillan, Marshfield and Wausau.
