Here is a profile shot of Great Western Railway 2243. This engine was originally built in 1952 for the Atchison Topeka & Santa Fe as a high-nosed GP7, wearing the Bluebonnet paint scheme. In the late 1970’s the engines were rebuilt to a GP7u configuration, with the early units retaining their rounded roof cabs and the later units (as seen with GWR 2243) configured with the angled ‘Topeka Cab’, which better allowed for rooftop air conditioning units. This engine was repainted in 2005 at Omnitrax’s Loveland facility and can be found sharing time between jobs in Fort Collins and Loveland, Colorado.
