Remarks & Notes
Amtrak Acela Express led by #2035, leads a train out of Newark, NJ, through North Elizabeth and on towards Philadelphia and points south. The track to the far right is what is known as a "fly-over" which was built back in the days of the PRR. It allowed for Pennsy's higher speed passenger trains to fly over the center tracks which were used mostly for the non-stop and slower freight trains. In this case, it allowed easy access to Pennsy's P&H branch (bypass of Newark) and both Waverly and Kearny Yards. Waverly yard is no longer there, but the jump over still allows for the connection to the P&H branch without effecting moves on track 1.
