A new Long Island Railroad paint scheme (similar to the MILW Bicentennial unit) emerged when the LIRR GP38-2's were delivered in 1976. The blue units with the 2 white stripes were now the norm, and the remaining 8 C420's were also painted like the GP38-2's, as seen on LIRR228 here. The LIRR's Bicentennial unit, LIRR252, is also seen here. Later this year, all the blue/white GP38-2's and C420's were painted R/W/B just like the LIRR252, 3 years after the USA's Bicentennial year.
Not
just heritage schemes, not just commemorative schemes - this album is devoted to some of the world's most interesting paint schemes, past or present.
