Wearing number 52 in the train indicators - the number of the eastbound San Joaquin Daylight, which used to ply these rails - Southern Pacific 4-8-4 4449's exhaust is barking as it climbs the grade at Vincent, California, on May 12th, 1984. The train is headed to New Orleans. Louisiana. The big Lima-built GS-4 got quite a workout on this trip.
