CSX GP40-2 4405 is parked on the Conrail Shared Assets' Carteret Industrial Track. This rail line was once part of the Central Railroad of New Jersey's Sound Shore Branch, before the bridge across the Rahway River was removed from service. Until the early 1960s passenger trains plied this rail line, providing transportation for the many workers employed by industries along the route. When the line was severed, this portion became known as the Carteret Extension. The remaining track is about a mile in length, serving a large chemical tank farm along the waterfront.
