Remarks & Notes |
A Susquehanna SD40T-2 leads three SD60s westbound past the remains of the Vreeland Avenue Station in Paterson. The surviving part of the structure was incorporated into a larger brick warehouse which was built on land adjacent to the station. The peaked roof and covered platform can be seen to the left of 3014. This station was built in 1949 to replace an older wooden building. It was built near the end of a brief commuter service renaissance on the Susquehanna which began in 1940 with the introduction of ACF-built “Streamliners” (Susquehanna’s marketing name for the sleek, air-conditioned diesel rail cars). A small fleet of Streamliners provided frequent service between Paterson and the aptly-named Susquehanna Transfer in North Bergen where riders would transfer to a connecting bus to Manhattan via the Lincoln Tunnel. |
