"Sunday Sparta Turn"
After a shortened work week due to Memorial Day on Monday, the NYS&W had a derailment in Marathon, NY which caused freight to back up at both ends of the railroad. On the Jersey side of things all remained quiet until Sunday May 31 when WS-2X was scheduled to run to Sparta in order to bring "hot cars" to a customer. The crew had the seldom used PRLX 3806 for power with a 7 car train bound for Sparta. Here the train is seen passing over Route 517 shortly after thunderstorms passed through the area.
*This was the first time since December 2014 that the NYS&W had operated a "Sparta Turn." The job has since been replaced by the SJ-1 a designated local for switching Sparta Junction. |
