Since the statute of limitations has expired, I'll admit my vantage point for this shot was a Southern Railway hopper (No, I wouldn't do that today--but I was 20 years old, and a little foolish at times.). This is L&N train 864 making a pick-up of interchange traffic from the Interstate Railroad (mostly empty coal hoppers brought over from the Clinchfield connection at Miller Yard). This is obviously a Tuesday, since power out of Norton those days included both the inbound power from the previous day's 865 (two U25Cs and an RS-3), and this morning's 855 (RS-3, F7B and an SD35). Train 855 didn't operate on Sunday, and train 856 didn't operate on Monday. Otherwise, four daily through freights (plus several extras) plied this line back then.
