One hundred and five 'M7' class 0-4-4 Tanks of Dugald Drummond's design were built for the London & South Western Railway. They were built at Nine Elms (95) and Eastleigh (10) between March 1897 until December 1911. All except two passed into British Railways stock in 1948, the final survivors lasting until May 1964, a very good return on their original investment! Two have been preserved, No.30245 from 1897 and this portrait finds No.30053 from 1905 resting in glorious evening light after a hard day's work with a charter.
