Remarks & Notes
Barber Titleys has strong ties to this locomotive – it was named after Francis Barber, one of the founders of the firm. Francis Barber was chairman of the Harrogate Gas Works Company, and when the locomotive was delivered to the company in 1908 it was decided by the board that the name ought to be Barber, in recognition of their chairman. The Gas Works Railway officially opened in December 1908 and remained so until July 1956 when it was closed and the track removed. Barber was taken out of service 10 years prior to this, in 1946, with the hope that it would be preserved in due course and was eventually presented to Leeds City Museum. The locomotive has now been restored for operation on the South Tynedale Railway in Alston, Cumbria
