Remarks & Notes

CNW Alco C628 6720 and mate arrive in Altoona with a train from Spooner, WI. The 6720 had been pruchased from Norfolk & Western earlier in the year along with 29 more C628s. Repainting began reflecting the Employee Owned look which featured yellow cab sides instead of green. This experiment ended later in 1973 when EMD delivered 15 new SD40-2s with the traditional green cab. Of interest in the background is a 40 ft. NWX ice reefer still used at this time for potato loading.
