Remarks & Notes |
From this vantage point it's easy to see how much elevation change this tank train has undergone as it moves off the original Santa Fe track and onto the ex-Rio Grande right of way. What isn't seen is the fact that as the track gets closer to Palmer Lake out of sight to the right, it will actually be going up a 1.42% grade since that area is the summit of the line between Denver and Pueblo. Because of this dip from the 1917 government realignment and the grade up to Palmer Lake, this area on the railroad is known as "the sag" and is notorious for finding weak knuckles on heavy trains that pass through it. |
