Remarks & Notes
A Green Light to Innovation: Just as progress nearly half a century ago altered signalling along the old Washington to Atlanta mainline, progress again strikes as PTC signal upgrades commence in the Lula area on a cool February morning. The lights atop the Brosnon-era signal bridge located at the milepost 571.3 have gone dark and the contractors are setting up on the double track to begin dismantling the structure built from boxcar frames. Within three hours, the new cantilever here at Belton would be up and nearly complete as crews finished up wiring in the new signals. And with it's fall, another piece of the old Southern Railway went along with it. But, such is progress and innovation.
