After 6 cars of BNSF Train H DENKCK1 08 went on the ground early this morning in Hutchison, KS, Amtrak 3 and 4 were forced by the derailment and damage to track and signal apparatuses to detour via the UP between there and KC, where they regained their original route. The eastbound suffered from the old adage "late trains get later" all day and departed Kansas City 8 hours and 48 minutes late.
Here, the Amtrak Train #3 comes off the UP Inbound onto KCT Main 3 at Adams Street Interlocking. They were routed through UP 18th Street to KCT Track 75, through the Spring Switch, 200 yard lead and out the "wrong way" via the Inbound. Certainly not a common move!
