Remarks & Notes
Until Wick Moorman put an end to such practices, perennially power-short NS took delivery on new units from GE with only the undercarriage and pilots painted. The units left the plant at Erie, PA wearing only primer gray, and they earned a dubious nickname: "stealth" units. In theory the units would cycle through either the Altoona or Chattanooga paint shops shortly after they were accepted for service, but in reality, they tended to run quite a bit in this "scheme" before that happened. The 9511 leads a southbound on the CNO&TP at the double crossover at Revilo, just south of Stearns, KY.
