The Empire Builder cruises along Lake Pepin, an extremely wide section of the Mississippi River, on the evening of the 4th of October. The train is approximately 8 hours late at this point, still in Minnesota between Red Wing and Winona, when it really should be at Chicago Union Station. This is one of those days where Amtrak's "cronic delay" warning comes true. Hope travelers found interesting things to do in Red Wing, while their train was still a ways off...
